Turning left at the top of Silver Street you come into Lichfield Street and on the left is Moat House said to date from 1572. It has five stepped gables. It was once owned by the Comberford family. When James I stayed at Tamworth Castle in 1619, his son Charles was lodged at the Moat House. In 1815 it was converted to an asylum and is now a restaurant. (The house is not shown in full as a parked police car to the left intruded on the mood of the building!)
